For our first concert of this season we take you across the ocean to America with the music of Aaron Copland and George and Ira Gerswin. Both Composers are renowned for championing the music of America, with Copland regarded as the American equivalent of Benjamin Britten for his song writing and imaginative folksong arrangements, examples of which you will hear in these old American songs.

George Gerswin said "Music must reflect the thought's and aspirations of the people and the time. My people are American: my time is today." His delightful melodic talent, beatifully matched by the polished lyrics his brother Ira provided, is found in such songs as "Swanee", his first big hit of 1919, right through to "Love is Here to Stay", their last song together, both of which are found in these meddleys of Mac Huff.
